There is something about eating beetroot that makes me feel extremely nourished, whether it be a bowl of borscht, a beetroot & pear salad, a hummus, or a smoothie. It always seems to bring back fond childhood memories.

This smoothie packs a nutritional punch. It has a variety of anti-inflammatory ingredients that help to restore balance in the body. It is also lower in sugar, contains healthy fats, and good sources of fibre.
Reducing inflammation in the body can help with weight loss, the severity of seasonal allergies, blood sugar balance, body aches & pains, arthritis, digestive upsets, acne, and fatigue. Consuming a variety of healthy enhancing foods in your diet that are rich in antioxidants will promote longevity and help you to age gracefully.
1.5 cups chilled green tea or water
1/2 cup ice (optional)
1/2 a heaped cup of frozen blueberries
1 large handful spinach
1/2 cup cubed beetroot (raw)
1 kiwi, skin left on - rub with a clean cloth to remove the hairs
1/4 of an avocado
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 - 2 tsp fresh ginger, grated
combine all ingredients in a blender
blend on high until smooth, roughly 1 minute, taste test. Keep blending if slightly gritty from the beetroot, blend away those fibres
add toppings if desired
